End of race season
By: Vegar Johannessen - 30.9.2009
Marius had done the practice, but during qualifuing he lost propoulsion. As he had his wife and kids with him, he dismissed the chance for racing due to broken drive coupling.
On my way to the track, Marius called me with the bad news. But since I had travelled around the world for this race, I would not give inn quite yet. I had a quick look around at the car, and found a missing nut on the driveshaft on drivers side. At this time they had started to line up for race no 1. we had only one thingin spare, and it was a brand new bearing with new nut. I mounted the new nut while Marius got dressed up. By the time he had his race suit on, I was tighting the wheel nuts. And off he goes..
He lined up at last start position, and off htey went for the line up lap. But Marius soon arived back in the depot with no brakes. A quick look, and it was clear that he was missing one brake pad. I had mounted the new drve shaft nut wrongly, so the inner brake pad got away.
After race 1 Jon-Even came over and lent us some new brake pads. We replaced the missing and noticed that the other was very worn. So we changed all pads. And I we where ready for the last race. All I had to do was to do a couple of slow laps in the depot to check the brakes. But on my second pump on the brake something broke. Back and up with the car it was clear that the steel braided brake line had broke. Thiese are old, but looks OK. And the race season was over for us. I am very glad the hose broke at walking speed in depot and not under full speed in the race. A set of brake hoses are on the cards for next season, along with some minor modifactions. Stay tuned, all modifications will be on this site first
We race old, small cars.
